The Okavango Delta is a wonder of nature. Every year, rains in Angola supply the rivers that feed the Delta, and water levels rise and fall according to the season. In semi-arid Botswana, water means life.

The myriad of rivers, lagoons, channels, and islands of enormous trees consequently support an abundance of exotic bird and mammal life. The Moremi Game Reserve covers approximately one third of the Delta, and incorporates permanent swamps, marginal floodplains, and dry acacia and mopane forests.

This is big game country. Elephants, buffalos, kudus, sable antelopes, lions, leopards, cheetahs and wild dogs are just a few of the large mammals to be seen and photographed in Moremi. Evenings often echo with the distant roars of lions and whoops of hyenas.

Birdlife is plentiful and varied, ranging from tiny malachite kingfishers to huge Goliath herons, little sparrowhawks to martial eagles, and pearlspotted owls to giant eagle owls.

Bodamatau – Moremi Game Reserve

Our camps are situated to maximize your appreciation of the beauty and splendour of this unique wildlife area. For example, we often visit Bodumatau (translated as “where the lion roars”), a remote area in Moremi nestled in feverberry trees with a beautiful, hippo-filled lagoon at the foot of the camp.
